Poor Man’s Supper

Sister Margaret McCaffrey founded Christian Service Hospitality House in 1970 to serve those in need. Sister Margaret never turned anyone away. She fed the hungry with love, dignity and respect. Christian Service is a 501(c) (3) non-profit that has served more than three million meals since 1970.

The Poor Man’s Supper is an event held annually to raise critical funds and awareness for the ministry of Christian Service that provides food, clothing, and emergency assistance for the hungry and homeless of our area. So please join us for a symbolic meal of soup and bread which signifies what many homeless people eat for their supper.

Please join this effort by becoming a sponsor for this annual event which will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 5pm to 7pm at our new location, 2346 Levy St, Shreveport. Explore what we offer

Feeding the Hungry

Meals are served 364 days a year (closed Christmas Day).

  • Breakfast is served each day from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

  • Lunch/dinner is each day from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Clothing the Needy

Christian Service has a spacious area for the clothing ministry. Clothing is donated and clothing giveaways are announced in advance. Let us know if you have clothes you would like to donate

Make a Financial Donation

Your contribution to Christian Service helps many individuals and families. Feed the hungry one meal a day for a week for $30; two meals a day for a week for $60; one meal a day for a month for $130 or two meals a day for a month for $260. Any gift can make a difference.

Schedule a time to volunteer with us

Join us in the mission to combat poverty and hunger by volunteering. We could not do what we do without the help of our wonderful volunteers. Volunteers may come Monday through Friday, and weekends.
